Camilla Ballin and Catherine White are both Clinical Research Nurses working at Bristol Children’s Hospital.
Catherine started working with the MCRN in 2009 and has stayed with the team as it transitioned into the Women and Children’s Research team in 2014. She qualified in 2003 as paediatric nurse at the University of Middlesex, when she moved to Bristol to complete a rotational post at the Bristol Children’s Hospital covering Short Stay Surgical and the Renal Unit. This culminated in a position in NICU where she worked for 5 years. She has worked on a wide range of commercial and none commercial studies since joining the team and is looking forward to working on the Treat study.
Camilla qualified in 2012 at The University of Nottingham and went on to work on the Renal Unit at Bristol Children’s Hospital for just under two years. She then worked at the Spire Hospital in Bristol as a Paediatric Nurse, before joining The Women and Children’s Research Team in 2015. She has worked on a variety of projects since then, including the initial set up of the Treat study at the Bristol site.

Prof. Alan Irvine, Co-CI
Alan is a Consultant Dermatologist in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital/ St. James’s Hospital, Dublin, Ireland (October 2002- present) and Professor in Dermatology, Trinity College Dublin.
His department in OLCHC provides multidisciplinary care for 10, 000 children annually including many children on systemic therapies for atopic dermatitis and inflammatory dermatoses. The department is designated as a national and European (ERN) centre of expertise for both rare and genetic skin disorders including epidermolysis bullosa and for vascular abnormalities. The department manages or shares care for >95% of all Irish children on systemic therapy for AD. Since 2013 Alan has led development of skin registries for the Irish Skin Foundation and is keenly interested in systemic therapies for children and adults with AD. He is a Co-PI and a member of the Trial Management Group for the TREAT trial

Her research interests include all aspects of paediatric dermatology and she has worked with the CEBD on several NIHR funded projects including ‘Setting Priorities for Research into Uncertainties in Skin Disease’, and ‘Hi-Light study of hand-held UVB and topical steroids for Vitiligo’. Jane is motivated by the patients she sees in clinic and the desire to improve treatments for skin disease.

Jo Llewellyn is a CRN-East Midlands Funded Dermatology Clinical Research Nurse based at Nottingham University Hospitals Trust
After obtaining a BA (Hons) in Nursing Studies, Jo’s previous roles have included: Team Leader for Hammersmith Medicines Research (a CRO in London) and Drug Surveillance Executive for Roche Products ltd.
Jo joined the Centre of Evidence Based Dermatology in January 2003 and her roles here have included being the Research Nurse on the SINS (BCC) PATCH (Cellulitis), STOPGAP (Pyoderma gangrenosum), BLISTER (Bullous pemphigoid), BADBIR (Psoriasis),B-STOP (Psoriasis) and Genetics in Acne, Susceptibility Genes for Eczema and Food Allergy Trials. During this time Jo obtained an MSc (Distinction) in Frontiers in Medical Science. She recently completed her work as Research Nurse on the CLOTHES trial (Clothing for the relief of eczema symptoms) and is currently working on HI-LIGHT (Vitiligo) and TREAT. Jo is also assessing photos for hand eczema as part of the National SCIN trial (Skin Care Intervention in Nurses).

Charlotte Barclay RN BSc

Charlotte is a Research Nurse for Dermatology and Rheumatology and also acts as a Principle Investigator in clinical trials.
After graduating from Bournemouth University, Charlotte worked in Emergency Medicine and Surgical Assessment before taking a tour of the wards as a Bank Nurse. It was after this she worked in the Out-patient department and found her love for rheumatology and dermatology which led her on to her current role in research.
Charlotte and her CTA Maxine Ashton have successfully integrated the workforce through collaborative working practice in different specialties including child health, cardiology and midwifery.
